About

Inspired by a tremendous enthusiasm for music, Paul Christophersen has parlayed more than three decades as a drummer onto divergent paths as performer and rock critic, student and educator, plus several stints in band management. Today he teaches drums from his home studio near Boulder, Colorado, and since 2007 at Mojo's Music Academy in nearby Longmont. He maintains a busy performance schedule with acoustic pop-roots band Words In Flight (recently named by the Colorado Daily “Best Local Band in Boulder" 2011), and folk-rock singer/songwriter Nick O'Connor.

During his formative years in his native Iowa, Paul excelled in the public school music programs, and played in his first garage bands -- the D.O.W.S., the NuTones, and Pustif DX. He attended Northeast Missouri State University as a percussion major, later transferring to Iowa State University where he earned a B.A. in Journalism with minors in Music and English. At ISU he was a music critic for the Iowa State Daily and was awarded an editorial internship with Los Angeles-based drumming magazine RHYTHM, later working as one of its contributing writers.  He was also a member of the alternative rock band the Masque, which was featured on the prestigious Iowa Compilation III (1989).

After graduating from ISU Paul relocated to Colorado where he embraced the regional music scene, performing and recording with numerous acts including Armchair Martian, Sol~Fed~Joe, and Kenny Perkins. In 2005 he became a founding member (and later business manager and publicist) of the Informants, named Colorado's “Best Blues Band” in 2008 and 2009 by Westword.  He recorded two critically acclaimed records with the band, Stiletto Angel (2007) and Crime Scene Queen (2009).  Surprisingly, in 2007 Pustif DX reunited for a one-time hometown performance, reuniting again in upstate New York two years later to record several new songs. Paul also managed the career of Nick O'Connor during the release of his well-received record Lady In Pink (2010).
